Desert Island is a private member owned, equity club in Rancho Mirage, California. Located on the corner of Frank Sinatra Drive and Bob Hope Drive, this community offers luxury and amenities at reasonable prices.
There are 226 units in this high rise condominium neighborhood with sizes varying from 1,500 to 4,000 square feet and more for penthouse suites. This complex is made up of three buildings that are surrounded by a 24-acre lake. Amenities include beautiful cabinetry, white quartz counters, and tiled bath and showers. Residents also enjoy tiled flooring, spacious master bedrooms, and cozy fireplaces. The community and club are owned separately but you do not have to live on the island to be a club member. The club is also known as the “280 Club” which describes the low membership cap. Public schools that serve this area include Rancho Mirage Elementary, Nellie N. Coffman Middle, and Cathedral High School.
One of the biggest features is the 18-hole championship golf course that was designed by Desmond Muuirhead. It is considered one of his greatest accomplishments. When it was contracted, the blueprint showed a 25-acre lake surrounding a 25-acre elongated island. The course was completed in 1971 and the clubhouse opened in 1972. Winmar Corporation owned and operated the course until 1981.
Amenities of the club include a yacht club for pedal boats, two light tennis courts, and lots of fishing. There is a pool and spa at each building. The club’s culinary staff offers a wide variety and food and beverages are served daily. The 19th Hole serves breakfast, lunch, snacks, and Happy Hour daily during season. The San Jacinto Bar & Grille serves a casual lunch on certain days and dinner on two evenings of the week as well as Sunday brunch. Facilities for banquets are also available for events and special occasions; and the club’s chef will work with you for the perfect menu.
